The Solar Killshot - The Facts
The solar storm of 1859, also known as the 1859 Solar Superstorm,or the Carrington Event, was a powerful solar storm in 1859 during solar cycle 10.
Aurorae were seen around the world, even over the Caribbean; those over the Rocky Mountains were so bright that their glow awoke gold miners, who began preparing breakfast because they thought it was morning.
People who happened to be awake in the northeastern US could read a newspaper by the aurora's light.
Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed, in some cases shocking telegraph operators. Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems continued to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies.
The so called solar maximum, expected to peak in 2013. Some U.S. experts estimate as much as a 7 percent chance of a superstorm in the next decade, which seems a slight risk, but the effects would be so wide-ranging, that it has drawn official concern.
May we expect a Carrington Event in 2013?

A sign of the time: Phenomenal Roll Cloud over Curitiba, Brasil - Dec 17, 2012
A sign of the time. A phenomenal roll cloud formation filmed over Curitiba, Brasil on December 17, 2012.
An arcus cloud is a low, horizontal cloud formation. Roll clouds and shelf clouds are the two types of arcus clouds. A shelf cloud is usually associated with the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow; roll clouds are usually formed by outflows of cold air from sea breezes or cold fronts in the absence of thunderstorms.

Lightning Hits SUV While Driving in Russia (Video)
What happens when lightning strikes a vehicle? The answer, gleaned from anecdotal observations, is all the way from "Nothing" to "Wow! What a mess . . . my car is a disaster."
Electrically speaking, at lightning's higher frequencies, currents are carried mostly on the outside of conducting objects. A thick copper wire or a hollow-wall metal pipe will carry most of the lightning on outer surfaces. This phenomenon is called "skin effect." The same holds true for lightning when it strikes metal vehicles: the outer surface carries most of the electricity. The persons inside this steel box can be likened to protected by a partial Faraday cage.

Mysterious 'Underground Sounds' + Tremors in India Since Aug. 25 - Sep. 9, 2012
Thane, Sep 1 (PTI) Reports of mysterious underground sounds in Jawhar taluka of the district have promoted the local administration to take help from geological experts to unravel reasons behind the phenomenon. Residents of Kadidond village in the tribal-dominated taluka have complained about hearing such sounds several times since August 25, sources in district headquarters said today.
Following this, the local tehsildar, accompanied with other officials, visited the village for an on the spot assessment and to instill confidence among the anxious villagers. Tehsildar Urmila Patil said she visited the village after getting complaints about underground booms. Patil said she immediately got in touch with Met Department in Mumbai and told them about the mysterious sounds.
However, the Department officials maintained that no tremor-related activity had been recorded from the village or anywhere in the taluka, she said. The administration has now requested geological experts to visit the village and give their opinion about the unexplained occurrence, Patil said.

Yangtze River Turns Blood Red in Chongqing, China (Video) - Sept 8, 2012
Residents in China's southwestern mega city of Chongqing have been puzzled by this strange sight this week.
This image of the Yangtze River, the longest in China, have been surfacing since Wednesday. This stretch of the river around Chongqing looks like it's been dyed blood red.
Locals suspect that sever pollution is the cause, but Chongqing's Environmental Protect Bureau has another explanation—sand. Official reports are saying that flooding upstream washed excess sand downstream, turning the river bright red.
The Bureau also made a point of saying they did not find any evidence of illegal sewage dumping, but netizens have been questioning the official announcement.
Investigations are ongoing.
The second half of the next video onward is all footage of the river. "Yesterday's shallow 5.6 magnitude quakes struck an impoverished, mountainous part of the country with poor infrastructure and telecommunications and the death toll could rise as news trickles out of cut-off areas, it said.
Most of the victims were from Yiliang county in Yunnan province, near the epicentre.
Footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed boulder-covered roadways, abandoned cars and black smoke billowing from buildings.
