Man in the Moon tunes into Earth's Radio
If you ever thought what happens on Earth stays on Earth, think again.
Astronomers have now reported that we are sending more signals into space than intended, and we might not be the only ones in the Universe listening in.
Using the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) in Western Australia - one of three precursor instruments to the ultimate radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) - astronomers have found that the Moon is an effective mirror of the radio pollution that the Earth radiates into space, as it reflects the signals from our TV and radio stations in the FM band (87.5-108 MHz).
In a fleeting glance at the Moon, the MWA telescope picked up every breaking news story, every Top 10 hit, every football score, every press conference, every national anthem, every soap opera, mixed together in a noisy echo of all the Earth's FM radio signals played simultaneously.

The Solar Killshot - The Facts
The solar storm of 1859, also known as the 1859 Solar Superstorm,or the Carrington Event, was a powerful solar storm in 1859 during solar cycle 10.
Aurorae were seen around the world, even over the Caribbean; those over the Rocky Mountains were so bright that their glow awoke gold miners, who began preparing breakfast because they thought it was morning.
People who happened to be awake in the northeastern US could read a newspaper by the aurora's light.
Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed, in some cases shocking telegraph operators. Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems continued to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies.
The so called solar maximum, expected to peak in 2013. Some U.S. experts estimate as much as a 7 percent chance of a superstorm in the next decade, which seems a slight risk, but the effects would be so wide-ranging, that it has drawn official concern.
May we expect a Carrington Event in 2013?

A sign of the time: Phenomenal Roll Cloud over Curitiba, Brasil - Dec 17, 2012
A sign of the time. A phenomenal roll cloud formation filmed over Curitiba, Brasil on December 17, 2012.
An arcus cloud is a low, horizontal cloud formation. Roll clouds and shelf clouds are the two types of arcus clouds. A shelf cloud is usually associated with the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow; roll clouds are usually formed by outflows of cold air from sea breezes or cold fronts in the absence of thunderstorms.

Rogue Alien Planet Found With No Star!
Astronomers have discovered a potential "rogue" alien planet wandering alone just 100 light-years from Earth, suggesting that such starless worlds may be extremely common across the galaxy.
The free-floating object, called CFBDSIR2149, is likely a gas giant planet four to seven times more massive than Jupiter, scientists say in a new study unveiled today (Nov. 14). The planet cruises unbound through space relatively close to Earth (in astronomical terms; the Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light-years wide), perhaps after being booted from its own solar system.
"If this little object is a planet that has been ejected from its native system, it conjures up the striking image of orphaned worlds, drifting in the emptiness of space," study leader Philippe Delorme, of the Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics of Grenoble in France, said in a statement. Read full article (incl.video).

Lightning Hits SUV While Driving in Russia (Video)
What happens when lightning strikes a vehicle? The answer, gleaned from anecdotal observations, is all the way from "Nothing" to "Wow! What a mess . . . my car is a disaster."
Electrically speaking, at lightning's higher frequencies, currents are carried mostly on the outside of conducting objects. A thick copper wire or a hollow-wall metal pipe will carry most of the lightning on outer surfaces. This phenomenon is called "skin effect." The same holds true for lightning when it strikes metal vehicles: the outer surface carries most of the electricity. The persons inside this steel box can be likened to protected by a partial Faraday cage.

FINAL TARGET: Planet Earth
American Astronomers shocked the world by reporting that a large Asteroid could potential hit the Earth within 30 years. ( The 460 foot ball of rock named 2011 AG5 is potentially on course to hit this planet on February 5, 2040)
Could humanity survive such an impact?
At this time there is no definitive means to protect or defend our selves from the inevitable global devastation this event would ultimately cause.
This program profiles some of the most spectacular Comet and Asteroid impacts on the Earth as well as the current and future dangers of such impacts to the survival of the human race.
Also presented are the current measures that Space Programs have already set up to observe, detect, locate and trap these celestial objects near the Earth that may someday pose a distinct threat.

One in seven thinks end of world is coming!
Nearly 15 percent of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10 percent think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll.
The end of the Mayan calendar, which spans about 5,125 years, on December 21, 2012 has sparked interpretations and suggestions that it marks the end of the world.
"Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming," said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.
"Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan prophecy that states the world 'ends' in our calendar year 2012," Gottfried said, adding that some Mayan scholars have disputed the interpretation.
Responses to the international poll of 16,262 people in more than 20 countries varied widely with only six percent of French residents believing in an impending Armageddon in their lifetime, compared to 22 percent in Turkey and the United States and slightly less in South Africa and Argentina.
But only seven percent in Belgium and eight percent in Great Britain feared an end to the world during their lives.
About one in 10 people globally also said they were experiencing fear or anxiety about the impending end of the world in 2012. The greatest numbers were in Russia and Poland, the fewest in Great Britain.
Gottfried also said that people with lower education or household income levels, as well as those under 35 years old, were more likely to believe in an apocalypse during their lifetime or in 2012, or have anxiety over the prospect.
"Perhaps those who are older have lived long enough to not be as concerned with what happens to their future," she explained.
Ipsos questioned people in China, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Italy, South Africa, Great Britain, Indonesia, Germany.
